Toganenwood Estate History:

8/15/09 the state review board unanimously approved the Estate for listing in the Registry for Historic Homes!  This took over a years work and is an honor!  This does not bar the owner from making any renovations.  Unable to use state monies unless within historic guidelines.  Many guests will love to come to an official Historic Estate!

4.6 acre historic homestead with 900’ water frontage on the Canandaigua Outlet, which flows from the Canandaigua Lake into the Erie Canal. This Estate sits in a small quaint hamlet of Alloway, which has its roots dating back to the 1700’s.  Lyons, which is 2 miles north on the Erie Canal was the Peppermint Capital of the World in the 1800’s.

Henry Towar, a land agent who settled the area in the late 1700's, built the Estate in 1832 and it was enlarged in 1852 by Robert Ennis the 2nd owner and the 1st generation of Ennis' to own the property.  The Ennis Families owned the estate for 4 generations and over 100 years.

King of the French people, Louis Philippe stayed at the Estate in the 1800's in the Towar Room while visiting the area.  He became a friend of Henry Towar in the mid 1700's.

Toganenwood is an acronym for three of the four owners.  The Towar family, the Ennis family, the Gansz family.  Brian and Betty added the B&B.

Reason for Sale:

We loved running the B&B and visiting with our wonderful Guests, but need to move closer to our family to help out an aging mother.
